TimberNook Experience

TimberNook
On Wednesday our class went on a day trip to TimberNook.
TimberNook is not your typical nature program. TimberNook intricately weaves the therapeutic aspects of nature with its unique understanding of child development to create an outdoor program that supports every aspect of the growing child. We do this by skillfully using the environment as inspiration for creative play opportunities that challenge the mind, body, and the senses. It was a very new concept and I have never done anything like it.

The PMI above is my reflection of what I thought.

BENCHMARK PERCENTAGES

WE HAVE LEARNING TO CALCULATE PERCENTAGES OF WHOLE NUMBER AMOUNTS USING BENCHMARK PERCENTAGES:

There are 180 students at Jamie’s school. 30% of them went camping

How many went on camp? 180 / 10 = 18 x 3= 54

Devon’s family went out for dinner. The cost of the meal was $140. They gave a 15% tip.
How much did they tip?  140 / 10 = 14 halved = 7 + 14= 21

(These were 2 of some I worked out)

Leaning tower of pasta!

The leaning Tower Of Pasta

20 minutes time to build
*teams of 4 only
*Objective: build the tallest freestanding tower
*Only use the materials given

Today we had a technology challenge. The objective was to creatively build the tallest freestanding( No hands or none given material supports) tower. We had 20 minutes to complete our tower. You could only use the given materials(40 Marshmallows and half a packet of spaghetti straws)

My five innovator trates were: Determined, Passionate, competitive, curious and creative. I think 4 of them were used in our build. I was competitive and wanted to win, I was creative with what to build, I was curious on how to make the tower better. And I was determined to do it!

Next time I would not eat any excess spaghetti because it makes your tummy ache.

Quad Death
Writing Purpose: To inform other HNI students the rules of the game and to develop our creative thinking ability.
Audience: Mrs Ellmore and HNI students
IMG_0448.JPGIMG_0450.JPG

Use your creativity to come up with 3 alternative names for this very exciting game!
Dangerous
Another one!
annoying

Imagine another class here at HNI has not played this game before. Complete the rules below to clearly describe the aim of the game and exactly what the rules are.
Aim of the game:
Rules:
  1. Stay on your bottom
  2. Don’t throw it high
  3. Get all the balls in one square
  4. Don’t kick it
  5. Have fun!

Game Adaptations
Use your creative thinking to explore possible adaptations to this game to enhance both the fun factor and the ability to win the game. I have given you one example for each category but challenge yourself with other ideas and thinking.

Attack
Defence
Game Plan/Strategy
  • Use balls other than netballs that aren’t as heavy so the speed of the travelling ball also speeds up the game.
  • 4 players from each quad are allowed to sit on the bleaches to stretch with their arms and intercept flying balls.
  • People on the perimeter of the quad pass the ball to someone closer to the bleaches to allow them to throw it further into the opponent's area.

Attack
Defence
Game plan/Strategy
Have all your team throw all the balls at one team to increase the chance of them getting a point!

Get the strong throwers at the front so they can get the ball farther to the other side!
4 players from each quad can stand in the middle/front to easily receive and get out the attacking balls
Throw the balls at the opponents heads so they get scared.

Yesterday we played a game what I call" Another One" It was really fun, Exciting and dangerous at the same time. My favourite thing about it was that you could hit people's heads with  the balls!

Film/Media work!

For the past 5 weeks of film/media
we have been focusing on our main subject. The subject is based in 1800's gold fever.

Here is one of my summing up tasks.
For this task we had to choose pictures from a document and match them with conversations in the the graph. We also had to label the shot size and angle.

I hope you enjoy.

Top spot

I excitedly opened the car door handle and get a giant gust of welcoming wind.
A shiver of cold air quickly runs up my spine.
I look to the right and gaze upon the gentle ripple of water over the harbor,
I also watch the boats piercing through the morning mist.
We slowly walk towards the sky towering hotel trying to cease the moment,
There are people walking here and people walking there. I here cars driving by every second.
I feel the morning rush of a busy day.
The night comes and the city lights up, there is so much variety, it really is a magical place.

This a top spot competition writing challenge that we had this 2 weeks.
Here is mine!

I am from poem

"I am from poem"
*we have been writing poems
all about me. here is my piece of poetry

I am from
Long walks amongst the water
on hot sweaty days, with the summer
Haze, burnt faces and ocean waves

Cat chasing mouse on tv every morning
from eating eggs and bacon to getting ready for bed,
Brushing my teeth getting my pj’s on, I am off to sleep

Playing on hard crispy grass
And in summer warm water
To lush green leaves and lemons on my tree

South America to Europe
from travelling to different places
I love seeing variety
Of cultures and experiencing how they live

I am from Family
